Sean Scully and the 80's Revival.

by Hynam Kendall / art - Feature

“Timothy Taylor Gallery is delighted to present an exhibition of paintings by Sean Scully from the 1980s,” prompts said gallery’s PR magnate Elizabeth Barrett. Looking at Scully’s famed dramatic exploration of minimalist abstraction we don’t doubt that they are…

Ponystep NYE Party.

by Richard Mortimer / parties - Feature

It was with both excitement and sadness that Ponystep opened its doors for the final time at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen this NYE. The crowd turned out in their finery, paying tribute to the 'White Wedding' theme. Rachel Thomas and her team did a sterling job of transforming the venue. The music was second to none, with JBAG, Pippa Brooks, Gareth Pugh, Hanna Hanra and Princess Julia playing everything we wanted to hear. Special thanks to Jeanette for an amazing NYE countdown! Onward to Paris..

Calvin Klein and the underwear revolution.

by Dean Mayo Davies / fashion - Feature

Calvin Klein is the man that made jersey, that ever so humble fabric,' hot'. He took efficient, minimalist underwear design and spun a sexual revolution from that fibre, pushing the limits of advertising and changing perceptions of the way men (and eventually women) were portrayed. Ponystep pays tribute to, and celebrates over a quarter-century of Calvin Klein Underwear. Calvin Klein is, simply, the king of what lurks beneath.

MIAMI VICE.

by Louisa Buck / art - Feature

Art Basel Miami Beach is always known as the high-rolling, hedonistic art fair which mixes steely Swiss efficiency with South Beach pleasure principle. However this year the mood was not so festive with all eyes nervously fixed on America’s first major art fair to be held since the chill winds of recession began to blow with a vengeance.

Somebody Else's Party.

by Richard Mortimer / parties - Feature

To mark the end of the hit Nokia campaign, 'Somebody Else's Party', the mobile phone moguls teamed up with Colette - undoubtedly the coolest store in Paris. The party, staged in a magnificent aquarium, was attended not only by the stars of the Nokia campaign, but by the likes of Sara (Colette), Pedro Winter and London's very own Susie Bubble (of Style Bubble fame). Of course, the biggest coup of the night was a rousing performance from The Gossip - jetting in especially for the event.

The open mind behind Opening Ceremony.

by Dean Mayo Davies / fashion - Feature

NYC’s Opening Ceremony is the store charged with putting the fun back into shopping. And a support system too - aside from their six-year-old New York store and their year-old L.A follow-up, Opening Ceremony have their own showroom dedicated to taking their protégés (and their own in-house label), getting them stocked in other places and pushing them as far as they can. A polar opposite to the cold severity of shop-as-gallery, buyer Humberto Leon has proved that retail can be human after all.

'LOVE' - Tea and Treasure Hunt.

by Richard Mortimer / parties - Feature

If last Wednesday was anything to go by, Conde Nast must be feeling very pleased with themselves. As the fashion loving public await the launch of Katie Grand's new LOVE magazine, the buzz from fashion industry insiders was deafening at their Christmas 'Tea and Treasure Hunt' held at FLASH. The creme of the industry turned out to support Miss Grand's new venture - quaffing copious amounts of Moet and Tanqueray No.TEN cocktails (from Wedgewood teacups no less!) in the process... LOVE-ly!
