In the late 80’s, we decorated the 6th Form common room at my now defunct all-girls school, with posters. Torn mainly from the latest editions of Smash Hits, one poster in particular stood out from the surrounding images of garish boys in make-up: a sepia Athena poster of a shirtless man holding a baby. If Athena were still around, Michael Allen, photographed by Mariano Vivanco, would be this year’s Poster Boy.
